Invitation to Join the Richmond Food Recovery Network
The City of Richmond is excited to announce its partnership with FoodMesh to launch a Food Recovery Network within Richmond! As a valued local food business or supporter, you are invited to join this online exchange platform where you can seamlessly donate or sell your surplus food - while helping achieve our plan to be a sustainable and environmentally-conscious city.
Over the next year, this initiative aims to prevent 225,000kg of food from going to waste, create approximately 300,000 meals for residents experiencing food insecurity, and generate over $1.25 million in savings to local food brands and charities.
This online network of Richmond-based consists of food businesses, farmers and charities. Registering is free and Richmond businesses who join the network can securely find a home for overstock, mislabelled, close to expiry, distressed and aesthetically-imperfect food by choosing either to sell it to another business and recover some of the cost, or donate it to charities to support those most in need.
Jessica Regan, CEO of FoodMesh, and her team will be reaching out with the next steps for joining the Richmond Food Recovery Network.
