Meet our speakers:
M. Khemir is a Professional Engineer in telecommunications and electrical engineering with many years of experience in the industry. In 2009, M. Khemir was appointed to the position of the National Technology Sector Specialists’ Manager within the SR&ED Directorate and acted as the Director of the Technical Guidance Division as well as the Science and Technology Division.
M. Khemir is now in charge of the Operational Support and Technical Guidance team within the SR&ED Directorate composed of the National Technology Sector specialists as well as Senior Financial Officers.
Dr. Pelletier holds a master and a Ph.D. in plant biology from the University of Laval in Quebec City as well as a bachelor’s degree in agronomy. She has been a visiting researcher at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (Canberra, Australia) in 2005, before being a post-doctoral fellow, in 2006, at the Soils and Crops Research and Development Centre (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada). Her research focused on several fields of agricultural science, including plant physiology, animal nutrition and soil fertility.
Dr. Pelletier joined the Scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) program in 2009 as a Research and Technology Advisor (RTA) for the agriculture sector. In 2017, Dr. Pelletier was appointed to the position of the National Technology Sector Specialist for the Agriculture, Food Processing and Forestry sectors within the SR&ED Directorate.
Dr. Patil is now acting as a National Technology Sector Specialist for the Food Processing sector.
Dr. Patil holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the National Research Institute in India and the equivalent from the University of Toronto. He gained an extensive industry expertise working with different multinational food processing companies before joining the SR&ED Program in 2001 as a Research an Technology Advisor in the Toronto Centre office. Dr. Patil has a significant experience in reviewing hundreds of SR&ED claims related to Food Processing and Food Technologies.
Tara holds a degree in Economics from the University of Victoria as well as a CPA designation. She counts more than 20 years of experience within CRA and has spent the last 9 years in SR&ED. In 2017, Tara was appointed in the position of a Senior Financial Legislative Application Officer within the SR&ED Directorate.
Dr. McLeod holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of British Columbia studying gram-positive bacterial sporulation and chromosome dynamics, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia and the University of York (UK) researching bacterial protein secretion and the persistence of plasmid-based antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
Dr. McLeod joined the SR&ED Program in the Pacific region in 2013 as a Research and Technology Advisor and was appointed to the position of a Regional Outreach Coordinator in 2019.
